BP basics: what those numbers actually mean
What Is Blood Pressure?
It measures the force of blood pushing against your artery walls
Systolic Number
The top number shows pressure when your heart beats (contracts)
Diastolic Number
The bottom number shows pressure when your heart relaxes between beats
Normal BP Range
120/80 mmHg — Healthy and stable blood flow.
Elevated BP
120–129 / <80 — A warning sign to improve lifestyle habits.
Hypertension Stage 1
130–139 / 80–89 — Requires lifestyle changes + monitoring
Hypertension Stage 2
140+ / 90+ — High risk; needs medical guidance and control
