On Friday, Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said he had been informed of 10 deaths, while residents of the Bhagirathpura area claimed the toll was higher, alleging 16 deaths, including that of a six-month-old child.

In response to the outbreak, the state government has transferred Indore Municipal Commissioner Dilip Kumar Yadav and suspended two senior officials, Additional Municipal Commissioner Rohit Sissoniya and Public Health Engineering’s in-charge superintendent engineer Sanjeev Shrivastava, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said.

The Madhya Pradesh government told the High Court that the diarrhoeal outbreak triggered by contaminated water supply is now under control, and that authorities are monitoring the situation continuously to prevent a fresh flare-up.
