According to the report by the Interfax news agency, Azerbaijan confirmed its first case of mpox. The Ministry of Health stated that the patient has been put into isolation and is being medically treated in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku.
Apparently, the patient reported that they had gone to see a doctor right after returning to Azerbaijan, where all symptoms characteristic of the viral disease were displayed. The authorities have confirmed that none of the relatives who had been in contact with the patient are suffering from the disease. They are under close surveillance and are being observed at home to be on the safe side.
Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is the viral infection; it is by close contact of an infected individual. It was characterized by fever and fatigue associated with flu symptoms, followed later by the appearance of pus-filled lesions on the skin. Most people who contract it have mild versions that are not fatal, while mpox at times causes complicated severe cases in some populations with vulnerable health issues.
After the large mpox outbreak in August in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the WHO declared a global public health emergency. It had spread to the neighboring regions quickly. Since then, the WHO has focused on the early detection and isolation and treatment of patients as well to control the spreading of the virus.
The health authorities in Azerbaijan are quickly taking measures to prevent the continued spread of mpox. Experts in public health have urged citizens to be careful, keep clean, and steer clear of a person who appears to have the symptoms of mpox.
