The state of Gujarat declared itself free of active Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases, after the six patients detected with the virus have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals, a state health official confirmed.
The first case of HMPV was reported in the state on January 6 in a 2-month-old baby from Rajasthan. The infant and other reported cases have since fully recovered. The remaining four cases were also successfully treated, showing a positive trend in the fight against the respiratory virus in the state.
The family under which it belongs is Paramyxoviridae and it has first been identified in the year 2001. HMPV causes diseases similar to common cold but related to the flu; the cause being usually relatively innocuous; the dangers appear particularly in very young, and also older adult cases, especially compromised through poor health immunity.
All cases treated, hence cured and brought back to being tension-free owing to swift responses of the district health department saving the district from an even biggish risk.
People should carry on with hygienic practices and precautions against respiratory infections with the help of health tips.
