On the occasion of the World Health Day on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urged Indians to adopt a healthier lifestyle and work towards a life free from obesity.
World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7 April, to highlight health and its related issues.
In a message posted on social media platform X, PM Modi emphasised that his government would keep focusing on healthcare and invest in different aspects of people’s well-being. “Good health is the foundation of every thriving society!” he wrote.
In a video message posted on the platform, the Prime Minister stressed that āhealth is the ultimate fortune and the ultimate wealth.” “Aarogyam Paramam Bhagyam, means, Aarogya hi param bhagya, param dhan hai (Health is the ultimate fortune, the ultimate wealth). Better health is the way to the creation of a better future,” he wrote.
Urging Indians to adopt a healthier lifestyle, Modi highlighted a recent report that suggested that over 44 crore Indians will suffer from obesity by 2050. Calling the report “scary,” Modi proposed a simple change: “I want to take a promise from you today that we all should reduce our cooking oil by 10 per cent. This will be a big step towards reducing obesity.”
Modi further encouraged people to incorporate regular physical activity into their daily routines. “We must incorporate fitness into our daily routines as well. We will make a significant contribution to the path of a Viksit Bharat if we maintain our physical fitness,” he continued.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared healthy beginnings, hopeful futures as the theme this year to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths and to prioritise womenās longer-term health and well-being.
